Carrwood Primary School

Year 3 Conkers

Welcome to Year 3 Conkers!

Our class teacher is Miss Towndrow, supported by Mrs Stanhope, Mrs Austerfield and Mrs Softley. We are a caring and committed team, here to support our children and families throughout the year.

Year 3 is the beginning of Lower Key Stage 2. We have moved across to the other side of school. With lots of exciting new learning, we work hard every day to achieve our full potential.

Our School Rules:

Our school rules, Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe, help create a positive learning environment. We reward children who demonstrate these values through Class Dojo points, which can be exchanged for rewards. Children who regularly go Above and Beyond may also receive special Fantastic Friday rewards from Miss Malt.

Visits and Experiences

Throughout the year we will be going on lots of exciting trips and visits. We will be exploring our curriculum topics through visits to Stump Cross Caverns, Cliffe Castle and Magna Science and Adventure Centre. We will also be taking part in whole school events such as the Pantomime.

Reading

Reading is so important to us at Carrwood and we read every single day. We start our day with a reading skills lesson and have a daily story time where we enjoy sharing our favourite books.

Our Year Group Authors are:

  • Roald Dahl
  • Swapna Haddow
  • Andy Griffiths

These are authors we will get to know really well over the year and we will read a range of their books each term. They are in our reading corner so we can also choose to read them during the day.

We have a selection of books that are specific to our year group. These are our Core Read Aloud books:

As reading is so important to us at Carrwood. Children bring home two reading books: a colour-coded RWI book (if they are learning phonics) or a book from our Year 3 library and a reading for pleasure book. Please bring book bags to school every day so children can read with staff. Books are changed each Monday.
