Attendance & Punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality at Carrwood

If your child will be absent from school, please inform school each day by calling 01274 664864 or texting 07889 726013.

School starts at 8.45am, doors close at 8.55am prompt. Children arriving after this time should go to the school office. If your child arrives at school after 9.25am, they will receive an absent mark for the morning session.

We recognise that good attendance and punctuality are crucial to raising standards and pupil attainment. Any absense affects the pattern of a child's schooling and regular absense will seriously affect their learning. Late arrivals disrupt teaching routines and may also affect the learning of others in the same class.

We expect all children to attend school every day. Ensuring a child's attendance at school is a parental responsibility and permitting absense from school without a good reason is an offence of the law and may result in prosecution.

‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’ published by the Department for Education was updated in July 2026. Please see the ‘Attendance Roadmap’ below for an explanation of how this will be used in school to work alongside families to improve pupil’s attendance.

Working Together to Improve School Attendance

At Carrwood we strive to achieve AT LEAST 96% total school attendance each week. Individual class attendance is celebrated on our Facebook page. We also celebrate those children who achieve 100% attendance for the week.

We are committed to promoting excellent attendance and supporting every child to attend school regularly. Our Attendance Support Team monitors attendance daily and will contact parents or carers by phone or text if a child is absent and we have not been informed of the reason. Where we are unable to make contact, a home visit or welfare check will be carried out.  We take our responsibility for attendance seriously and greatly value the support of parents and carers in helping children achieve the best possible attendance

We have recently launched our ‘Attendance Monopoly Board Challenge’ to reward and celebrate class attendance. Classes can also receive on-the-spot rewards such as movie afternoons, dress down or pyjama days and pizza parties for working hard to come to school every day.
