Sports Grant

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government has provided specific sports funding since 2013 and continues to do so for the current academic year. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and the funding goes directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all of their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

What is the funding for?

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding could be:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • new or addition Change4Life sports clubs
  • paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • providing cover to release primary teachers for CPD in development in PE/sport
  • running sports competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs
  • buying equipment which will widen the range of sports activities undertaken

How do we spend the Sports Funding at Carrwood, and who benefits?

At Carrwood, the Governors, Senior Leadership Team and Teaching staff all agree that the money must be used so that: all children benefit, regardless of their sporting ability; that all children are given the opportunity to compete in tournaments and competitions with other schools; that children have access to a varied range of sports and activities; that staff have access to training opportunities and CPD.

In the academic year 2022-2023 we were allocated £18,550. The link below illustrates how we have spent the funding to improve the provision of sport and PE at Carrwood.
